Homo Faber: Printed Ephemera

Printed ephemera for the exhibition Homo Faber: Craft in Contemporary Sculpture, Asia Culture Center, Gwangju, 2019. Invitation: offset printing, 150 x 200 mm, 4 pp; leafelt: offset printing, Korean and English editions, 225 x 300 mm, 4 pp each. Printed by Top Process. Exhibition curated by Kim Sungwon.

The title in Chinese characters is constructed by a list of the mediums actually used in the works on display, from bronze to potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate. Thus the show’s materiality is literally spelt out. The symmetric treatment of the elements reminds of a simplest way of construction by stacking up, as with pebble towers.

The text set in a fixed-width, mechanical-looking typeface (combination of Gongan by Kim Tae-hun and Septima by Radim Pesko) is contrasted with the neoclassical headings (Ahn Sam-yeol-che and Linotype Didot). The invitation is printed on craft paper.
