Perspecta 36: Juxtapositions

The cover diagram shows the length of each article and how many times certain words (such as “city” or “boundary”) appear in it. The chart is split into two layers: one printed on the translucent dust jacket and the other on the cover. The design is incomplete without actual juxtaposition of these two parts. Inside, informal conversations and correspondences are sometimes placed at the bottom of the page, in parallel with normal essays. Evocative paintings and photographs are reproduced on the same translucent paper as the dust jacket and inserted at certain intervals for accidental effects.

This book is a winner in the book category of the AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers of 2004 competition presented by the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
