Jan van Eyck Academie Annual Report 2003
offset lithograph, sewn in sections and adhesive-bound
240 x 328 mm, 128 pp
The theme of the annual report is “lost and found”: in a sense, making a report of past activities is about recovering what have already passed. This theme is expressed on two levels. First, a list of documents erased from the Academie’s computers during the year, compiled by the Norton UnErase Utility, is running through the book in the gutter margin (“gutter” is where abandoned stuff often gathers). Secondly, images documenting the “afterlives” of various materials produced (and eventually abandoned) at the Academie, found in various locations and garbage cans, are placed between chapters.
Two kinds of paper are used: gray recycled paper for sections about the program and activities, and satin-smooth, white one for the institutional section.
