Etude No. 1
Etude No.1, a project by the artist Oh Min in collaboration with the composer Yoo Hyerim, starts from a question: what are the techniques that contemporary performers must master? The first part, composed by Yoo Hyerim and to be played by a piano and percussion, requires the performers not only to master the instrumental techniques, but to “adopt a sensibility for, and be as sensitive as possible to, a variety of situations, parameters, and musical time and spaces.” The part two is prescribed by written instructions as to be performed only by onomatopoeia while using the same score as the part one.
