Typographics Ti is a journal of the Japan Typography Association. The number 263, “Type Trip to Seoul,” features a number of Korean typographic designers including us.

Created by a team led by Goto Tetsuya and Harada Yuma, the cover concept for the eight issues starting from no. 263 was centered on the bagua: “eight diagrams used in Taoist cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality, seen as a range of eight interrelated concepts.” Each issue would feature a different diagram, and we were given the qián (‌乾,≡). As the qián is also one of the four diagrams used in the Korean national flag, we took the flag and zoomed in on this element to make an ambiguous reference to the special report’s subject (graphic design in Seoul). The red and the blue of the original flag was mixed to purple.
