Some elements of these charts were originally made to aid the design of monospace typefaces, to help judging their spacing. Arranged together in a single plane, they form a universal template for the specimen posters of monospace fonts, effectively revealing their qualities. One peculiar function of the monospace font, its usefulness for ASCII graphics, is also acknowledged.
