Created for a major exhibition of Karel Martens’ body of work, the animated posters play with the notions of movement and stillness, combining elements that actually move on screen and those that simply suggest the motion. The series takes various bits from the exhibits and put them in a new context: blown-up “dots” from an icon-raster image; moire patterns from a clock installation; stripe patterns from A4 wallpapers; and discs from another clock installation. The typeface is Pirelli, a recent collaboration between Lee Jung Myeong and Martens himself.
